Is your website fit for purpose?

You’ve got a website. But does it tick absolutely all the right boxes? Probably not, because the pace of internet progress is just pushing on too fast. It’s impossible to be totally up to speed with all the latest developments but here’s a list of six things you really do need to consider.

1. Can it be seen by your audience?
Don’t assume everyone is looking at your website in Internet Explorer on a PC screen. There are many types of browsers and devices used for viewing websites and you need to ensure your audience can read, search, download and buy from your website wherever, whenever. If your site won’t let them do that then you are losing out big time. Check which browsers and devices your audience are using to view your website and make sure your website is developed to suit all.

2. Is it current?
When was the last time your site content was updated? If your website content it woefully out of date, not only will your website be quickly sliding down the google ranking scale, it will also be leaving cold those who do bother to visit. If you don’t continue to update your website with useful and engaging content, why should visitors bother to spend time on the site?

3. Is it relevant?
Having the right key words woven into your content will dramatically improve your SEO rankings, but you need to know which are the most popular key words and terms your audience are searching for online…. And guessing them doesn’t count!

4. Does it make life easier?
Could your website be used to automate part of your sales, marketing or account management processes? Could clients log on to register, track or monitor their account with you? This will not only save you huge quantities of time, it will also make your client’s experience far more satisfying.

5. Is it organised?
Don’t hide information in the depths of your website content – visitors will never find it. Work out exactly what visitors want from your website when they visit your website and then organise this important information to be available to visitors within a single click of the home page.

6. Does your website stand out?
When visitors are researching online, they are likely to visit multiple websites as part of that search. If your website is bland and dull, it’s not going to be memorable. If your website stands out, it’s more likely to get noted and revisited - an old fashioned marketing philosophy, still relevant in this digital age.
